How to choose a Japanese toilet
Share
Thinking about making the switch to a Japanese smart toilet? In this guide we explain, step by step, what to look for before buying a Japanese toilet so you make the right choice.
What is a Japanese smart toilet?
A Japanese toilet (also called a smart toilet or bidet toilet) is a toilet with an integrated bidet and automatic functions: warm-water washing, air drying, a heated seat and button or automatic flushing, among others. It replaces toilet paper with warm water, improving hygiene and comfort for the whole family.
Features to look for
- Rear and feminine wash with adjustable temperature, pressure and position.
- Heated seat with several temperature levels.
- Warm-air drying so you can forget about paper.
- Flush: automatic when you stand up, on both models.
- Automatic opening and closing of the lid and seat (eQiik Pro). The eQiik has a soft-close lid and seat.
- LED night light.
Installation: what to check
Before buying your Japanese toilet, check that your bathroom has a floor outlet and a power socket nearby (220 V, European Schuko socket). Both eQiik models are floor-mounted and come with an installation kit. Both are installed the same way: waste outlet 20 or 21 cm from the wall, with the stopcock and socket 20 cm above the floor and 25 cm from the centre line.
Price, warranty and technical service
The price of a Japanese toilet varies depending on its features. The eQiik smart toilet comes in two models: the eQiik for €499 (was €599) and the eQiik Pro for €599 (was €699), both with remote control included and a 3-year warranty. A key point many people forget: technical service. With eQiik, a Spanish brand, you have our own technicians and spare parts in Spain and Portugal.
eQiik or eQiik Pro: which should I choose?
Both share the essentials: rear, feminine and child wash, heated seat, air drying and remote control. The eQiik Pro (€599) opens and closes the lid and seat by itself when it detects you, and flushes automatically when you stand up. The eQiik (€499) has the same dimensions and features, also with automatic flushing; only the lid is different, with a soft-close mechanism. If you want maximum hands-free comfort, the Pro is for you; if you'd rather save money and don't mind lowering the lid yourself, the eQiik is perfect.
